Michael Fishman Wins MUS By-Election

“I look forward to the opportunity to help make Bronfman great again.”

Following the resignation of Élie Lubendo as President of the MUS Executive Council and Chairman of the MUS Board of Directors on October 27th, 2015, a by-election was held over the course of nearly three weeks to determine his replacement.

Winning 43% of the vote, Michael Fishman has defeated candidates Alan Liu (35%) and Aarushi Kumar (22%) to secure the Management Undergraduate Society presidency. He will be assuming all Presidential roles and responsibilities effective immediately. Fishman will be in place for a term lasting until April 30th, 2016.

“I look forward to the opportunity to help make Bronfman great again,” Fishman expressed, reacting to the news of his win.

The presidential by-election set a new record high voter turnout, with 35% of the MUS student body (795 students) casting their vote.

Fishman, an Honours Investment Management student and former VP Corporate Relations of this year’s MUS Executive, ran on a platform of reformatting MUS financial policy to prioritize students, emphasizing transparency, and ensuring the MUS brand “grows without bounds.” As a result of securing the presidency, he will be leaving an open slot in the VP Corporate Relations role. To fill this vacancy, the MUS will be taking applications until Saturday, November 21st. A new Vice President will be appointed via the standard interview selection process undertaken by the President and Board of Directors, as per the MUS Constitution.
