The McGill student ghetto reflects a mosaic of different stories. A pink kitchen, a striped couch and sneakers scattered across the floor are just a few of the quirks that make these homes unforgettable. “The large windows and touch of student damage made it feel like home,” one student reflects while another can’t help but to recall the “Pepto-Bismal fever dream kitchen”. While these spaces are not always perfect, their walls hold stories of laughter, late-night conversations and growth. “If these walls could talk, they’d tell stories of transformation—of who we were and who we’re becoming,” says one Ghetto-goer. Others emphasized the connection that this burrow brings “running into familiar faces, and knowing you could walk down the street just to say hi to a friend” was a ghetto-goer’s favourite thing about the neighbourhood. Each photo aims to capture the spontaneity, creativity and community that is found in this shared space called the ghetto. Here, students find their belongings.
