Candidate Profiles: President

The president of the EUS is the official spokesperson and head of the executive team. The position demands someone with good communication and management skills, patience, and the ability to think on their feet. The president’s responsibilities are to represent the engineering students in communicating with administration, media, faculty, industry, etc., as well as chairing the weekly meetings of the 8 executives, and overseeing three committees: Publicom, Equity, and Sustainability. On the business side of the EUS, the president is the general manager and is responsible for legal aspects of the company, such as dealing with contracts and any legal issues that (hopefully won’t) arise.

Describe your platform:

Hi everyone! My name is Robert Forestell and I’m very excited to be running for the position of EUS President. McGill is much more than academics to me – it’s practically a lifestyle. A lifestyle that I want to improve, through the following key points:
Sustainability: I want to work closely with SEAM, EWB, the Solar Decathlon, and the Wind Pump Initiative among others to help them achieve their fullest potential. This includes creating sustainability-oriented design projects, and putting some plants in our hallways. Together, I believe we can strengthen the EUS’s commitment to social and environmental equity.
External Relations: I want to strengthen our relation with MESC and SSMU, and connect with other universities to share ideas and keep growing as a society. I also want to work with the Faculty to continuously improve and expand our student space.
EUS 2020: A long-term vision is important to the EUS, but how do we get there? EUS 2020 is about restructuring the EUS to make us a more efficient and intuitive organization. Within this portfolio, I also want to establish design projects funded by the EUS, such as software for our commercial services, and a beverage cooling system for OAP, the best place on Earth.

Describe your qualifications:

No matter your background or the position next to your name, when stepping into bigger shoes, you can bet there will be a steep learning curve. The EUS Presidency is no exception. This said, I believe I have the team management skills and experience needed to step up to this challenge. Here is a brief summary of my qualifications:

Current MAME Vice-President Academic. Within my portfolio, I oversee over $20,000 in academic funds and non-profit book sales. I have organised many tutorials and workshops that have reached hundreds of students throughout our Faculty.
I have met with our Dean and the Mechanical Engineering Departmental Chair to discuss diverse projects and issues. I have worked closely with our current EUS President during our time on MAME Council together, as well as with our current EUS VP Academic in key EUS committees. These experiences has given me great insight on the inner workings of our Faculty and of the EUS.
Much more experience to draw upon, including TechWeek MBA Coordinator, TechFair volunteer, peer tutor, active member with the EUS 2020 initiative.
Fluent in both French and English, spoken and written.
